MNJTF Honors Fallen Heroes, Comforts Wounded Soldiers

Multinational Joint Task Force Honors Brave Soldiers Killed or Wounded in Action

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has paid tribute to its soldiers who lost their lives or were injured during Operation Lake Sanity II, a mission aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Lake Chad Basin. The ceremony took place in Mora, Cameroon, and Maiduguri, Nigeria, where Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Ali, the Force Commander of MNJTF, presented token compensation to the families of the fallen heroes and wounded soldiers.

Maj.-Gen. Ali commended the troops’ bravery and sacrifice, emphasizing that their actions remind us of the heavy price paid for freedom. He reiterated the MNJTF’s unwavering commitment to upholding the peace and security the soldiers stood for. The Force Commander extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, acknowledging the pain of their loss while noting that the compensation presented was a token of the MNJTF’s respect and gratitude.

The event also saw the participation of senior military officials, including Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, who joined Gen. Ali in presenting compensation tokens to the families. The ceremony also included a moment of silence led by Sector I Commander Col. Tookap Loti, who described the soldiers as valiant heroes.

The MNJTF is a counterterrorism force comprising soldiers from the Lake Chad Basin Countries, including Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria, and Benin. Established in 2015, the force is structured in four national sectors, each headquartered in a different country. The ceremony was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the soldiers and a testament to the regional effort to combat terrorism.

In his remarks, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Babayo, Commander Sector III, expressed his deepest condolences, emphasizing that while no compensation could equate to the ultimate sacrifice, the gesture was intended to assist the families during this difficult time. The bereaved families, represented by Mrs. Afusat Abubakar, expressed appreciation for the thoughtful gesture.

The event serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of honoring the memory of those who have fallen in the line of duty, as well as the resilience and dedication of those who continue to serve. The MNJTF’s commitment to upholding the peace and security of the region will continue to be guided by the legacy of its fallen heroes.
