New Faces at the Helm: Yayari Mohammed’s Plan to Revive the Peoples Democratic Party
In a bid to restore hope and unity within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Yayari Mohammed has taken on the role of acting national chairman. In a statement issued on Sunday, Mohammed assures that his priority is to rebuild the confidence and aspirations of party members and unite the National Working Committee (NWC).
According to Mohammed, the PDP has not fulfilled its potential as a virile opposition due to the prevalence of personal and political interests among party leaders. He promises to be guided by the party’s constitution and ensure fairness to all members, regardless of their status, position, or state.
Mohammed’s primary goal is to restore the confidence of party members by convening the long overdue National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for October 24, 2024. He has also tasked members in the North-Central zone to urgently meet and forward their nominees for the position of substantive national chairman to his office.
Mohammed’s appointment comes as a response to the party’s desire to revamp and rekindle the hope and aspiration of its members, particularly the youths, critical stakeholders, and the general public. In his statement, he expressed his gratitude to party members for their “desire and determination” to see a strong and united PDP, capable of effectively representing Nigerians at the national level.
As the factional acting national chairman, Yayari Mohammed is set to steer the party into a new era of unity, fairness, and responsiveness. With his leadership, the PDP aims to reassert its role as a vibrant opposition force, committed to developing Nigeria’s democracy and promoting responsible governance.
The road ahead is long and challenging, but with Mohammed at the helm, the PDP may just be able to restore its former glory and rise to the challenges of the modern political landscape.
