The Countdown Begins: INEC to Distribute Permanent Voter Cards in Ondo State
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will start distributing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Ondo State from October 17, 2024, in preparation for the governorship election set to take place on November 16, 2024. The development comes after a significant increase in registered voters following the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) in May 2024.
According to Oluwatoyin Babalola, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, the PVCs will be distributed at designated collection centers across all 203 Registration Areas within the state’s 18 Local Government Areas. The exercise will commence with the Registration Area (RA) level from October 17 to 21, 2024, and then move on to the Local Government Area (LGA) level from October 23 to 29, 2024, including weekends.
Those who recently updated their details or are newly registered are particularly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to collect their PVCs. Similarly, those who had previously registered but are yet to collect their cards are also advised to do so. The REC emphasized that INEC is committed to ensuring a smooth and accessible PVC collection process.
The timely distribution of PVCs is expected to enhance voter participation and guarantee a credible and inclusive election. Mr. Babalola reiterated that INEC is committed to conducting a credible, transparent, and inclusive election in Ondo State and called on the good people of the state to come out en masse on election day to exercise their franchise peacefully and contribute to the growth of democratic process in Nigeria.
It is crucial for registered voters in Ondo State to note that their votes will count, and they should seize this opportunity to collect their PVCs and exercise their democratic right. With the PVC distribution set to commence, the stage is now set for a smooth and peaceful election in Ondo State.
