Police Denies Forced Eviction of Officers from Falomo Barracks

Broader Interpretation of Rebuilding Efforts

In a move to enhance police welfare and provide safe accommodation for officers, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has come under scrutiny following allegations of forcefully evicting personnel from Falomo Barracks in Lagos State. The force has now denied these claims, stating that occupants were given adequate notice and compensation to secure alternative accommodation.

According to Force Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, the claims are false, and the NPF remains committed to providing dignified living conditions for its personnel. Adejobi added that the former occupants would continue to receive monthly rent and would be brought back after the completion of the renovation of the barracks.

The reconstruction of Falomo Barracks is part of a nationwide assessment done on barracks across the country, which revealed that less than 25% of police personnel have access to adequate barracks accommodation. The force is leveraging Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements to rebuild existing barracks and provide affordable housing for officers, a move that aligns with international best practices in police housing initiatives.

The NPF Property Development and Construction Company has been instrumental in leveraging PPP models to rebuild existing barracks, with a focus on providing safe and decent housing for officers. Adejobi emphasized that the rebuilding of Falomo Barracks reflects the force’s commitment to providing living conditions that meet global standards and ensure the safety and well-being of its personnel.

The Force is urging the public to dismiss false narratives and recognize the broader objective of enhancing police welfare, which is essential to effective service delivery. As the NPF continues to prioritize the well-being of its personnel, it is critical that the public supports these reforms, which aim to enhance the quality of life for officers and strengthen the foundation of public service in Nigeria.

With a focus on providing safe and decent housing for officers, the NPF is taking a proactive approach to address the challenges faced by its personnel. By working together, the force can ensure that its officers have the necessary support to serve their communities effectively.
