Parties Suspend Party Officials in Kano State Amid Power Abuse Allegations
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) of Kano State has suspended its Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Bichi, and Commissioner for Transport, Muhammed Diggo, citing abuse of power, office, and disloyalty to the party. The decision was announced by the party’s state chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, who stated that the suspension was based on written complaints submitted by party leaders from Bichi North, where both officials are based.
The move comes amid a backdrop of internal tensions within the party, with Governor Yusuf recently mediating a reconciliation meeting to resolve disputes among party stakeholders. The meeting, which involved key figures such as SSG Bichi and Bichi local government chairmanship aspirant Hamza Maifata, aimed to resolve the issues and promote unity within the party.
Despite the reconciliation efforts, the party’s state chairman, Dungurawa, emphasized that the suspension is a separate matter, determined by the party’s internal processes. He also assured party members that the investigation into the allegations would proceed fairly, regardless of the reconciliation outcomes, with any further actions dependent on the findings.
The suspension is seen as a significant step by the party to address issues of misconduct and maintain discipline within its ranks. The NNPP, led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is the ruling party in Kano State and a significant force in the state’s political landscape.
In a statement, Dr. Bichi expressed his commitment to abide by the Governor’s leadership and distanced himself from the "Abba Tsaya da Kafar ka" faction, which had called for division between Governor Yusuf and the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. He also discussed his role in the ‘1 to Tell 10’ campaign initiative for the presidential bid, emphasizing that it was not related to internal conflicts.
Similarly, Hamza Maifata committed to working towards peace, stating that they had forgiven each other and would work together like they used to.
The party’s internal tensions have been a subject of debate, with some accusing the suspended officials of undermining the party’s leadership and structure. The party has, however, assured members that the investigation into the allegations will proceed fairly, regardless of the reconciliation outcomes, with any further actions dependent on the findings.
The development has sparked widespread interest in the political scene in Kano State, with many calling for greater accountability and transparency within the party. As the party continues to navigate internal tensions, the suspension of Bichi and Diggo is seen as a significant step towards maintaining discipline and unity within its ranks.
