Nigeria’s Edo State University Graduates 68 Nurses, Commends State Government’s Healthcare Initiatives
A significant milestone has been achieved in Nigeria’s healthcare sector, with the induction of 68 graduates from the Edo State University, Uzairue, into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). The inductees are all set to begin their professional careers in the healthcare industry.
The induction ceremony, which marked the fourth batch of such events, was attended by top officials from the university, including the Registrar of the NMCN, Ndagi Al-Hassan, and the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Dawood Egbefo. The inductees are all graduates of the Department of Nursing Sciences at the university, having completed a five-year program to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSC Nursing) degree.
In his remarks, Prof. Egbefo congratulated the inductees, noting that they are now certified nurses, qualified to work in any health facility in the country. He reminded them of the significant responsibilities that come with being a nurse, emphasizing the need for deep compassion, steadfast commitment to continuous learning and professionalism.
As future leaders in healthcare, the inductees are tasked with providing care for the vulnerable and the ailing, a role that requires unwavering dedication. The Acting VC commended the state government for its efforts to improve the training of medical students and enhance healthcare standards in the Edo North region, and urged the government to ensure the provision of adequate facilities at the Edo State University Teaching Hospital to offer top-notch healthcare services.
Dr. Beatrice Obende, Head of the Department of Nursing at the university, praised the inductees, urging them to remember that their profession is not just a career, but a calling to make a difference in lives. She emphasized the importance of patient care, patient well-being, and patient rights in the nursing profession.
Meanwhile, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Applied Health Science, Dr. Omoruyi Pius Omosigho, congratulated the inductees on making their parents and the faculty proud, urging them to be good ambassadors of the profession and the university, and to continue excelling in their future endeavors.
