Paul Pogba’s Best Season at Manchester United Revealed

In a candid interview with the Daily Mail, Paul Pogba has opened up about his time at Manchester United, revealing that his best season at the club came after the departure of Jose Mourinho. The French midfielder, who joined United in 2012, had previously expressed his desire to leave the club, but ultimately returned to the Premier League four years later.

Pogba’s second spell at United was marked by injuries and speculation about a potential move to Real Madrid. However, in the 2018-19 season, he scored 16 goals in 47 games across all competitions, making it his best season at the club. Despite this, Pogba had already made up his mind to leave United, citing the club’s lack of progress and the emergence of stronger teams like Manchester City and Liverpool.

In the interview, Pogba recalled the conversation he had with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward, the club’s executive vice-chairman at the time. “The year Jose went and Ole came, it was my best season at United but after the last game I told Ole and Ed Woodward that I thought it was my last year and that I wanted to leave,” Pogba said. “Ole said yes [to me leaving] and that he would talk to Ed. My head was already that I wanted to go but I came back for pre-season because I wanted to be professional.”

Despite his desire to leave, Pogba’s move was blocked by Woodward, who refused to sanction the transfer. The French midfielder eventually left United in 2022 to join Juventus, a move that was widely anticipated at the time.

Pogba’s candid admission provides insight into the complexities of his time at Manchester United, a club that has been plagued by instability and uncertainty in recent years. His comments also highlight the challenges faced by players in navigating the complex web of club politics and transfer negotiations.

The interview is a rare glimpse into Pogba’s thoughts and feelings about his time at United, and serves as a reminder that even the most successful players can struggle with the pressures and expectations of the sport.
