For the third time in a week, Nigeria’s national power grid collapsed again on Saturday morning, leaving the country in a blackout. Power generation dropped sharply around 8:16 AM, cutting off electricity nationwide.
This latest collapse follows two similar incidents earlier in the week, with the grid tripping off on both Monday and Tuesday as efforts were made to restore power. At 8 AM on Saturday, power generation was recorded at 3,042 megawatts, briefly peaking at 3,968 MW by 7 AM. However, by 9 AM, output had crashed to a meager 47 MW, leaving distribution companies with no electricity to allocate.

Attempts to reach the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for clarification on the cause of the repeated failures were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. The situation is still developing.
