Nigerian Government’s Economic Reforms to Yield Positive Results, Says Minister Bagudu
In a move to revamp the country’s economy, the Nigerian government has been implementing various reforms, which are expected to yield positive results. According to the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Bagudu, these reforms will improve the nation’s economy. The minister made this statement during a meeting with a delegation from the Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Giessen-Friedberg, Germany, at his office in Abuja.
Bagudu attributed the success of these reforms to the risks taken by President Bola Tinubu to make the country work well. He also commended the Dual Training/Apprenticeship Programme of the CCI Giessen-Friedberg, describing it as a welcome development. The program, which is already operational in Ogun State, aims to provide young Nigerians with dual vocational training, enabling them to acquire skills and become global citizens.
The minister emphasized the importance of legal migration, stating that a migration agreement was signed between Nigeria and Germany to enable Nigerian youths to migrate out of choice. This agreement is expected to help them shun criminal conducts in their host countries. Bagudu also highlighted the ministry’s mandate to manage bilateral economic cooperation, development aids, and technical assistance programs.
The Chief Executive Officer of the CCI Giessen-Friedberg, Dr. Matthias Leder, echoed the minister’s sentiments, stating that the purpose of their visit was to strengthen cooperation and partnership between the German and Nigerian Chambers of Industries. The organization aims to help young Nigerians acquire skills through dual vocational training, facilitate legal migration, and ensure they have the necessary rights.
The Dual Vocational Training or Apprenticeship program, established by Germany, is the most popular form of post-compulsory education in the country. It provides theoretical instruction in the classroom and practical on-the-job work experience in companies. This program is expected to benefit Nigerian youths, enabling them to acquire skills and become part of the global workforce.
In a move to support the Nigerian government’s economic reforms, the German government has relaxed its immigration rules for European Union/European Free Trade Association (EU/EFTA) citizens. This development is expected to facilitate the migration of skilled workers and promote economic cooperation between the two countries.
Overall, the Nigerian government’s economic reforms are expected to yield positive results, thanks to the support of the German government and organizations like the CCI Giessen-Friedberg. These reforms are expected to improve the nation’s economy, provide skills to young Nigerians, and promote economic cooperation between Nigeria and Germany.
