Atiku to Wike: Won’t Descend into Gutters

Atiku Abubakar Fires Back at Nyesom Wike: Refuses to “Descend into the Gutters” Amidst Political Spat

A heated exchange of words has erupted between Nigeria’s former vice president and 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The disagreement began when Wike claimed that Nigerians have rejected Atiku Abubakar and the former vice president should vacate the political scene.

Wike had stated, “I hear Atiku Abubakar said that Nigerians have rejected us in Rivers State. You, who have contested and failed woefully, Nigerians have rejected you; therefore, go back home.” Atiku Abubakar responded through his spokesman, Paul Ibe, stating that Wike’s comments were merely a reflection of his own bitterness from being defeated by Atiku at the 2022 party presidential primaries.

According to Ibe, Wike’s outbursts are driven by personal grievances rather than genuine concerns for the Nigerian people. He emphasized that while Wike is preoccupied with domestic affairs in Rivers, he has neglected his ministerial responsibilities. Ibe also pointed out that Wike’s self-absorption is evident in his tendency to prioritize his own interests over the welfare and progress of the people.

Atiku Abubakar has declared that he will not engage in a war of words with Wike, stating, “We shall not descend into the gutters where he feels at home. Instead, we prefer to rise above, maintaining our dignity while others revel in the mud.”

The spat between Atiku and Wike is a manifestation of the intense rivalry and power dynamics at play in Nigerian politics. As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how this disagreement will unfold and what implications it may have for the nation’s future.
