Yobe State Government Hands Over Multi-Billion Naira Livestock Development Centre to Fulani Herdsmen

In a significant move aimed at boosting livestock production and promoting socio-economic growth, the Yobe State Government has handed over the facilities of the Nazari Livestock Development Centre to leaders of the Fulani herdsmen. This decision was made by Governor Mai Mala Buni, who directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to transfer ownership of the multi-billion naira project to the herdsmen.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry’s Chief Information Officer, Aishatu Tijjani, the handing over became necessary as the project is now ready for occupation and usage. The governor emphasized that his administration, in collaboration with the Federal Government, had invested heavily in the construction of the reserve, which is the second-largest livestock development centre in sub-Saharan Africa.

Governor Buni expressed his commitment to supporting the grazing reserve, stating that it is a deliberate policy aimed at settling herdsmen in one place to concentrate on their grazing business and to enroll their children in school. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the socio-economic growth and development of livestock production in the state.

The Nazari Livestock Development Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a milk collection centre, human and animal health facilities, a primary school for nomadic children, and a feed mill centre. Other facilities include an artificial insemination centre, breed improvement centre, warehouses, and aqua-culture ponds, all geared towards boosting livestock production in the state.

The handover of the Nazari Livestock Development Centre to the Fulani herdsmen is a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to promote livestock production and support the socio-economic growth of the state. With the facilities now ready for occupation and usage, the herdsmen are expected to benefit from the centre’s resources and expertise, leading to improved livestock production and a better quality of life for the community.
