New Emir of Rano Takes Office, Pledges to Prioritize Education and Fairness
In a ceremony held in Rano town on Monday, Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano State presented the Staff of Office to Muhammad Umar, officially recognizing him as the new Emir of Rano. The governor expressed his appreciation for the contributions of traditional institutions in promoting peace and stability in the state.
Governor Yusuf urged the new Emir to prioritize education and remain a father to all his subjects, regardless of background or status. He emphasized the importance of fair and equitable leadership, saying, “I believe that the Emir will live by the tenets of his office and in peace with his people.” The governor also expressed his confidence in the Emir’s ability to lead with integrity and exemplary leadership.
In his acceptance speech, Emir Muhammad Umar pledged to be just and fair to all people in the emirate. He commended Governor Yusuf and Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, for their efforts in providing meaningful projects and promoting peace in the state. However, he also appealed to the governor to reconsider the 5km road project in the area, citing the contractor’s inability to handle the project. He suggested reassigning the project to a more capable contractor for speedy execution.
The Emir also highlighted the issue of water scarcity in the area, suggesting that a nearby mountain could provide a viable solution for the people of Rano and its environs. The event was attended by dignitaries including the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, members of the state and National Assembly, traditional rulers, and business leaders.
As the new Emir of Rano takes office, he faces the challenge of addressing the needs of his people while upholding the principles of fairness, justice, and education. His commitment to prioritizing these values is a promising start to his tenure.
