Google Chat Introduces AI Summaries for Unread Conversations

In an exciting move to revolutionize communication, Google has introduced a game-changing feature in its popular chat platform, Google Chat. Starting this week, Gemini capabilities are being introduced, allowing users to enjoy the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to summarise unread conversations. This feature is set to transform the way users engage with the platform, making it easier to stay on top of important conversations.

The AI summaries feature is currently being rolled out to Google Workspace users who have one of the Gemini add-ons, including Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium. The rollout may take up to 15 days to reach all eligible users globally. Notably, this feature is available across all existing platforms, including Android, iOS, and the web client, ensuring a seamless experience for users.

So, how does it work? The AI summarise feature is available in the home view of Google Chat. When a user navigates to an unread conversation, they will see a small Summarise icon preceded by the Gemini sparkle icon. Tapping on the icon will automatically generate a summary of unread messages in a bulleted format, appearing in a separate floating window on top of the unread conversation. This summary is designed to provide users with a concise overview of the conversation, enabling them to quickly grasp the key points and take necessary actions.

The tech giant believes that this feature will enable users to prioritise the most important conversations without needing to read through every message individually. This is especially useful in today’s fast-paced digital landscape, where staying on top of multiple conversations can be overwhelming.

To access the feature, users can simply hover over an unread conversation on the web, and the summarise option will automatically appear. On Android and iOS, users can long-press an unread conversation to see the option. Additionally, end-users can turn the feature on or off via the Smart features & controls in Google products.

This feature comes months after Google released the AI-powered summarise feature for Gmail. As technology continues to advance, it’s exciting to see how Google is harnessing the power of AI to enhance user experience and streamline communication. With the introduction of AI summaries in Google Chat, users can expect a more efficient and streamlined way to manage their conversations.
