Yobe State Governor Set to Present 2025 Budget Proposal

In a significant development, the Yobe State House of Assembly has received a formal letter from the state government, requesting permission for Governor Mai Mala Buni to present the 2025 budget proposal. The letter was read out by Speaker Rt Hon Chiroma Buba Mashio on the floor of the House, marking the resumption of plenary sessions after a three-week recess.

According to the Speaker, the Governor is scheduled to present the budget on Thursday, October 2024, at 11:00 AM in the chambers of the House. Mashio urged members of the House to extend their support and cooperation to the Governor, ensuring a successful presentation of the budget.

In a related development, the House has also received the names of two nominees, Umar Hassan Babayo and Suleiman Abubakar Bakura, for confirmation as chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board and the Internal Revenue Service, respectively. The nominees have been appointed for a four-year term, starting from their confirmation.

The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Nasiru Hassan Yusuf, moved a motion seeking the confirmation of the nominees, which was presented by the executive arm of government. According to Hon Yusuf, the nominees were appointed in accordance with Section 12 of the State Universal Basic Education Board and Internal Revenue Service Law.

The House has referred the names of the nominees to its standing committees on Basic Education and Finance and Appropriation for thorough screening. This development is expected to further strengthen the state’s education and revenue sectors, aligning with the government’s developmental goals.

The upcoming budget presentation by the Governor is anticipated to be a significant moment for the state, as it will outline the government’s spending priorities and development plans for the next fiscal year. The House’s support and cooperation will be crucial in ensuring the successful passage of the budget, which will ultimately benefit the people of Yobe State.
