Yankees Welcome Back Veteran Anthony Rizzo, Boosting World Series Hopes
In a significant move to bolster their chances of securing their first World Series appearance since 2009, the New York Yankees have added veteran first baseman Anthony Rizzo to their American League Championship Series (ALCS) roster. Rizzo, who was left off the roster for the American League Division Series against the Kansas City Royals, is set to make an immediate return to action.
The veteran first baseman suffered a pair of fractured fingers during a Sept. 28 matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he was hit on the hand by a pitch from Ryan Borucki. However, after a brief recovery period, Rizzo is now ready to rejoin the team and contribute to their postseason push.
Rizzo’s return comes at a crucial time for the Yankees, who have struggled to find consistency at first base this season. The former World Series champion has had a disappointing year, posting a .228 batting average with eight home runs and a .637 OPS in 92 games. As a result, the team has experimented with various players at first base, including Ben Rice, DJ LeMahieu, and Oswaldo Cabrera.
In addition to Rizzo’s return, the Yankees have also added veteran starter Marcus Stroman to their ALCS roster. Stroman, who has been a starter for most of his career, will reportedly take on a different role, providing the team with multiple innings out of the bullpen as they look to eliminate the Cleveland Guardians.
To make room for Rizzo and Stroman, the Yankees have left Ben Rice and Duke Ellis off the 26-man roster. While it remains to be seen how much the two veterans will be able to contribute, their proven track records should provide the team with valuable experience and depth.
The Yankees’ decision to bring back Rizzo and add Stroman to their roster is a clear indication of their desire to make a deep postseason run. With their first World Series appearance since 2009 within reach, the team is leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of championship glory.
