Nigeria Prepares for Ondo State Governorship Election with Mock Voter Accreditation

As Nigeria gears up for the Ondo State governorship election on November 16, 2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is taking proactive steps to ensure the voting process runs smoothly. To test the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and the real-time result upload to the INEC Result Viewing portal, INEC will conduct a mock accreditation of voters on November 6, 2024.

According to INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the mock exercise will take place at 12 designated polling units across six Local Government Areas in Ondo State. These locations are strategically spread across the three senatorial districts of Ondo Central, Ondo North, and Ondo South. Olumekun urged registered voters in the designated polling units to participate in the exercise, which will run from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.

The selected polling units include Alagbaka Primary School and Ijapo High School in Akure South, Our Saviour Primary School and the open space near Plot 6 in Idanre, Methodist Primary School and Imade College Gate in Owo, and open spaces and schools in Akoko South West, Odigbo, and Okitipupa. Only registered voters with Permanent Voter Cards from these units will be allowed to take part, and no voter from outside the selected units will be accredited by the BVAS during the exercise.

This mock accreditation exercise is a crucial step in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System. By testing the system before the actual election, INEC can identify and address any potential issues, guaranteeing a seamless voting experience for the citizens of Ondo State.

In preparation for the election, 55,859 Permanent Voter Cards have already been collected by new registrants in the state. As the election approaches, INEC’s efforts to ensure a fair and transparent process are evident. The success of this mock accreditation exercise will undoubtedly contribute to a successful governorship election in Ondo State.
