Falz Speaks Out on Defamation Allegations Made by VeryDarkMan
In a recent appearance on Afrobeats Podcast, Nigerian singer and songwriter Falz, whose real name is Folarin Falana, has responded to allegations made by social media sensation Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM). Falz revealed that he doesn’t know much about VDM’s activism, despite being mentioned in one of his videos.
Falz’s first encounter with VDM’s work was when he campaigned against unregistered skincare vendors in Nigeria, calling them out on his social media handles for selling bleaching products without proper authorization. Although Falz thought VDM’s cause was good, he admitted that he hasn’t seen much of his work beyond that.
However, things took a turn when VDM made serious allegations against Falz and his father, Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). According to Falz, VDM claimed that he and his father had colluded with certain individuals to manipulate justice and bribe the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The singer expressed his shock and disappointment at these allegations, stating that VDM had also accused him of having a homosexual relationship with crossdresser Bobrisky, which he vehemently denied.
Falz described VDM’s accusations as “horrible things to say without proof,” questioning how anyone could make such serious allegations without evidence. He emphasized that being an activist is not just about posturing, but about standing up for what is right, and that VDM’s claims have caused harm to his reputation and that of his family.
The incident has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many calling out VDM for his baseless allegations. The situation is a testament to the dangers of misinformation and the importance of verifying facts before making accusations.
