Kogi State Set to Take to the Skies as Federal Government Approves International Airport Project

In a significant move to boost the state’s economy and connect it to the global aviation network, the Federal Government has granted approval to the Kogi State Government to build an international airport in Zariagi, near the state capital, Lokoja.

According to Kingsley Fanwo, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, the approval was given by the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development through a letter dated October 9th. The letter conveyed the ministry’s satisfaction with the proposed airport site, particularly the existing airstrip in Zariagi.

Fanwo stressed that the administration of Governor Usman Ododo is committed to completing the project in a timely manner, adhering strictly to regulatory standards. He emphasized the significance of the project, stating that the new airport will not only serve Kogi State but also 10 other neighboring states, reducing traffic congestion on the Lokoja-Abuja road and decongesting the Abuja International Airport.

Governor Ododo’s administration has deemed the airport project a top priority, recognizing its potential to transform Kogi State into an aviation hub. Fanwo noted that the state’s strategic location at the nation’s center presents an unparalleled advantage in harnessing the aviation service market.

The airport project is expected to bring numerous benefits, including economic growth, job creation, and increased global visibility for the state. Governor Ododo has vowed to hire the best professionals in the industry to ensure the project’s success, underlining the importance of trust and standards in the aviation sector.

Fanwo also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the Aviation Minister for their historic approval, which he believes will contribute significantly to Kogi State’s development. Additionally, he assured the people of Kogi that Ododo’s administration would continue to execute impactful projects, building on the gains of the previous administration led by Governor Yahaya Bello.

The new international airport in Zariagi is set to have cargo capacity, aligning with the government’s focus on expanding the state’s economic potential. With this development, Kogi State is poised to take a giant leap forward, strengthening its position as a key player in the nation’s aviation industry.
