Kano State Imposes Movement Restrictions Ahead of Local Government Elections

In a bid to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the upcoming local government elections, the Kano State Government has announced a restriction on movement across the state. This precautionary measure, effective from midnight to 6 pm on election day, aims to guarantee the safety of lives and property during the elections.

According to Commissioner for Information Baba Halilu Dantiye, the restriction is necessary to prevent any disruptions and maintain law and order. Dantiye emphasized that only essential services personnel, including election officials, security personnel, and accredited journalists, are exempt from the restriction.

The government is urging the public to comply with the directive and cooperate with security agencies. Residents are encouraged to exercise their civic rights peacefully and avoid disrupting the election. To monitor compliance, security agencies are on high alert across the 44 local government areas, with checkpoints established to ensure a smooth electoral process.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Prof. Lawal Malumfashi, has assured citizens of the commission’s readiness to conduct a credible election. Malumfashi urged voters to come out and cast their votes, assuring them that all necessary measures are in place to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.

Political parties participating in the council election include Action Alliance, Zenith Labour Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party, among others. With adequate preparations in place, the stage is set for a successful election that reflects the will of the people.

As the Kano State Government takes proactive measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly election, citizens are encouraged to participate in the democratic process and exercise their civic rights. The restriction on movement, though temporary, is a necessary step towards guaranteeing the safety and security of all involved in the electoral process.
