Apple Unveils Notable MacBook Air Upgrade, Boosting Base RAM to 16GB

In a significant move, Apple has revealed a substantial upgrade to its MacBook Air lineup, effectively doubling the base RAM configuration of its M2 and M3 models to 16GB, up from the current 8GB. This notable enhancement comes without a corresponding increase in pricing, making it an enticing offer for potential buyers. The laptops will retain their 13.6-inch Liquid Retina displays, with the M3 variant boasting 512GB storage and the M2 model featuring 256GB storage.

The base 16GB RAM upgrade was announced during Apple’s Mac event on October 30, applying to both the M2 and M3 MacBook Air models. The entry-level price for the lineup remains at $999 in the United States, with the laptops available in Midnight, Starlight, Silver, and Space Gray colors. For Indian customers, the 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chipset and 16GB RAM costs Rs. 1,14,900, while the M3 model with the same RAM configuration is priced at Rs. 1,34,900.

This enhanced memory capacity is expected to improve the performance of Apple Intelligence features included in the macOS Sequoia update. Additionally, it is likely to positively impact multitasking capabilities and application operation.

This announcement comes on the heels of Apple’s launch of the latest 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models with the M3 chipset in March. Industry observers speculate that the company is set to introduce new models featuring the M4 chip around the same time next year.

It’s worth noting that aside from the RAM update, the MacBook Air’s hardware features will remain unchanged. The laptops will continue to feature 13.6-inch Liquid Retina panels with peak brightness of 500nits, along with a range of connectivity options, including MagSafe 3 charging ports and two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports. With this upgrade, Apple aims to further solidify its position in the highly competitive laptop market, offering customers a more streamlined and efficient computing experience.
