Rivers State Governor Reveals Twists in Peace Agreement, Commits to Peace and Development
In a stunning revelation, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara disclosed that he discovered a sinister plot to ambush him through a peace agreement he signed with a faction of the state House of Assembly that aimed to oust him from office. Fubara made this shocking statement during a non-denominational thanksgiving in Port Harcourt, marking a year since he survived an impeachment plot by 27 lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Fubara clarified that he never suspected the initiator of the peace accord, President Bola Tinubu, of any wrongdoing. Instead, it was those he thought were genuine in resolving the crisis who turned out to have ulterior motives. The governor shared that he decided not to play along once he realized the true intentions of the other party involved.
Describing the actions of the pro-Wike lawmakers as “fraud,” Fubara stated, “We went to Abuja and Mr. President knowing the importance of peace for Rivers State, called out some conditions for peace. We came back here, in this state, to do everything that has to do with the conditions of the peace. We went to court immediately and withdrew our matters. And you call yourself honourable when you cannot obey simple instructions.”
Fubara took the opportunity to thank prominent Rivers people and others who have supported his government over the past year. “I am standing here because of all of you,” he expressed with gratitude. “A lot of people may not understand what happened on the 30th of October, 2023.” Fubara emphasized his commitment to promoting peace in the state, acknowledging that his supporters had played a challenging role in achieving this goal.
Despite predictions that his government would not last for a week, Fubara proudly announced that they have overcome numerous obstacles and continue to deliver on their promises. “We are still complete,” he stated. “Let me tell you, we are still intact. They said we would not have local government chairmen. Today, we have local government chairmen.” Fubara highlighted his administration’s achievements, including appointing over 23 commissioners and implementing various projects that benefit the people.
Fubara’s government has also been commended by an external body for showcasing transparency and accountability in the use of state resources. He addressed his opponents, posing the question, “I now ask the question, who is the winner?” He maintained that his government would continue to prioritize the welfare of the people, pledging to pay contractors and release local government council funds.
In a final message, Fubara reiterated that he would ensure peace prevails in the state despite any challenges. He thanked those who have supported his government, saying, “According to the governor, success is when you are succeeding against the expectation of your detractors that you should fail.” As Rivers State moves forward, it is evident that Fubara remains dedicated to promoting peace and development for the benefit of all its citizens.
