Senator Babajide Omoworare, who represented Osun East Senatorial District from 2011 to 2019, has expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of many inner roads in the South West region of Nigeria. Speaking in Ile-Ife, Osun State, during the inauguration of several road projects he facilitated, Omoworare emphasized the need for urgent attention to the region’s infrastructure.
The projects inaugurated included roads such as Obalogun/Orunobaado/Gbelenkan, Oke-yetoro/Abewele/Odo-Ogbe, Akarabata/Ogoni lane, Aiyelabowo, and Orilonise roads. Additionally, street lighting initiatives were launched in various areas, including Lagere, Aderemi, Eyindi, Omisore, Enuwa, Olofin, Oja Ife, Moremi, and Parakin.
Omoworare highlighted the government’s efforts to improve inner roads to alleviate pressure on major routes. “I am trying my best at the Federal level to see that the Federal government comes to intervene in that aspect, but internal roads in the South West especially are very bad,” he stated.
He pointed out that many of these roads were constructed 40 to 50 years ago and have seen little to no maintenance since. “We are trying to fix the internal roads that would even save the ring roads. Instead of taking ring roads and burning your fuel, you can always go within the street, and they are all well-lit. There are solar lights everywhere, and there are good drainages within Ife now, but it is too minimal. That is like 10% of what we should do, but we have to start somewhere. If you don’t take a step, you won’t travel in miles.”
During the ceremony, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, commended Omoworare for his dedication to community development. Represented by the Obalufe of Ife, Oba Idowu Adediwura, Ogunwusi celebrated Omoworare’s legacy of service and leadership, remarking, “Senator Omoworare exemplifies the noble ideals of humility, integrity, and commitment to the betterment of his people.”
As Omoworare inaugurated these road projects, he reinforced his commitment to enhancing infrastructure in Ile-Ife, aiming to uplift the community and improve the quality of life for its residents.
