A military helicopter tragically crashed on Wednesday in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, resulting in the deaths of the pilot, co-pilot, and a technician, all of whom were foreign nationals. Authorities have not yet revealed the identities or nationalities of the crew members involved in the incident.
The helicopter went down while attempting to land at N’Dolo Airport, which primarily serves light aircraft and is located in the Barumbu area near the Funa River. Emergency teams were quickly dispatched to the scene to extinguish the flames following the crash, but unfortunately, the crew could not be saved.
As of now, the cause of the accident remains unclear, prompting officials to launch an investigation to determine what led to the tragedy. This incident comes on the heels of another aviation mishap earlier this week, when a military drone reportedly operated by the M23 rebel group crashed in North Kivu province.
The recent spate of aviation accidents in the region raises concerns about safety and operational protocols within the military and civilian aviation sectors. Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
