Yobe State House of Assembly Speaker, Ciroma Buba Mashio, has urged the state government to diversify its revenue sources and reduce reliance on federal allocations. Speaking before Governor Mai Mala Buni introduced the 2025 fiscal year appropriation bill, Mashio emphasized the importance of enhancing institutional capacity to generate revenue.
“To reduce over-dependence on federal allocation and deficit financing, the House is calling on the executive to improve the diversification of the state’s revenue sources,” he stated. He also highlighted the need to enforce existing Public Finance Management Laws, ensuring that all revenues are deposited into the State Single Revenue Account.
Mashio expressed the Assembly’s commitment to working closely with the executive and judiciary to promote good governance through effective legislation. He commended Governor Buni for his proactive measures to alleviate the impact of the current economic downturn, particularly through the provision of agricultural implements and inputs valued at billions of naira.
This call for revenue diversification reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s financial sustainability and reduce its dependence on external funding, paving the way for more resilient economic development.
