The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has expressed his condolences to the victims and families affected by the recent building collapse in Ibadan. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Olugbemiga Ayoade, on Friday, the monarch described the incident as both worrisome and unfortunate.
The tragic event occurred on Thursday in the Jegede area of Ona Ara Local Government Area, where reports indicate that approximately ten lives were lost, and several others sustained injuries. Oba Olakulehin took the opportunity to extend his sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives and the other victims impacted by this disaster.
He urged the state government and relevant stakeholders to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Disturbed by the tragedy, the Olubadan emphasized the need for accountability among agencies responsible for building construction and urban planning, advocating for adherence to protocols to prevent future occurrences.
In his statement, he appealed to construction experts to ensure that proper materials are utilized and all regulations are followed throughout the building process. He called upon the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency to provide immediate relief supplies to those affected.
“I want the NEMA, State Emergency Management Agency, and other stakeholders to provide prompt relief materials to the victims and their families,” he stated. He also requested that professionals offer necessary assistance to those still receiving treatment.
The Olubadan concluded with a prayer for the continued safety and protection of lives and property in Ibadanland and Nigeria during his reign.
