FCT Executive Committee Approves N33.24 Billion in New Contracts

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Executive Committee has greenlighted contracts worth N33.24 billion for various projects set to unfold over the next year. The approvals were announced during the committee’s ninth meeting, chaired by FCT Minister Mr. Nyesom Wike, in Abuja on Friday.

In a briefing to journalists, Chidi Amadi, the chief of staff to the minister, emphasized that these decisions are part of the administration’s ongoing commitment to enhance critical services for residents in the FCT.

Chinedum Elechi, the Mandate Secretary for the Transportation Secretariat, detailed significant allocations, including N7.22 billion designated for constructing access roads to the Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals. This work builds on contracts awarded in May for the terminals in Kugbo, Mabushi, and the Central Business District. Elechi noted that the need for these access roads became evident as projects in Kugbo and Mabushi advanced.

The committee has entrusted Planet Projects Ltd. with this road construction project, which is expected to be completed in 12 weeks.

Further procurement plans include 120,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel) and 40,250 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) for the operation and maintenance of the Wupa Basin Sewage Treatment Plant. Safah and Fresh Ltd. have been awarded a N2.92 billion contract for these supplies, set to be delivered over the next 12 months.

Additionally, N638,550 has been allocated for 400,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil for the Lower Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant under the FCT Water Board.

Shehu Ahmad, Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority, reported that the committee has also approved the construction of an access road to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Academy in Giri District. This project, awarded to Levant Construction Ltd. for N7.83 billion, is slated for completion in nine months.

The committee further sanctioned the design and construction of ten staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, with Austlinks Energy Services Ltd. contracted for N2.19 billion, also to be completed in nine months.

Moreover, the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Bill Clinton Road, which links to the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, was awarded to Julius Berger for N9.88 billion. This project includes restoring facilities in the Presidential Wing, such as the Presidential Hanger, taxiway, and airport apron, with an expected completion time of six months.

Finally, Gardiya Bawa, Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Legal Secretariat, mentioned the approval of N605.94 million for office equipment, new furnishings for the secretariat, and utility vehicles.
