Nollywood Mourns as Director Dimeji Ajibola Passes Away

Acclaimed Nigerian director and editor Dimeji Ajibola passed away in the early hours of November 3, 2024, after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness. Ajibola was a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry, known for his impactful storytelling and innovative approach to Nollywood cinema.

The news of Ajibola’s passing was confirmed by Nollywood actor Bolanle Ninalowo, who shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. “I love you, brother, and I miss you, Dimeji Ajibola. May God heal your family and loved ones. Till we meet again, didi dox, rest on the champ,” Ninalowo wrote, expressing the deep sadness felt across the industry.

Ajibola gained recognition for directing the 2023 crime thriller series Shanty Town, which captivated audiences with its intense plot and gritty depiction of Lagos’ underworld. His career further soared with Hoodrush, a 2012 urban musical drama that won multiple awards, including Best Movie at the 2012 Green Me Film Festival in Germany. Hoodrush was celebrated for its bold storytelling, innovative musical elements, and its exploration of social issues, earning Ajibola a place among Nollywood’s leading creative voices.

Ajibola’s legacy extends beyond his body of work; he was admired for his dedication to advancing Nigerian cinema and for inspiring a new generation of filmmakers.
