AC Milan striker Alvaro Morata has expressed his belief that Barcelona’s young talent, Lamine Yamal, has the potential to reach the heights of football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Morata’s comments highlight Yamal’s promise as the next football sensation, joining a lineage of players who have made a profound impact on the sport.
In an interview with The Athletic, Morata acknowledged the rare emergence of players like Messi and Ronaldo, who have together won 13 Ballon d’Or awards and dominated world football for over 15 years. Both players are now nearing the end of their careers, with Messi currently playing for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer and Ronaldo at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
“Every 20 or 30 years, one or two players emerge like Cristiano and Messi,” Morata stated. “For me, Lamine has got everything it takes to make history. I’m convinced that if he doesn’t become the greatest player in Spain’s history, he’ll definitely be one of them.”
Yamal, who recently ranked eighth in the 2024 Ballon d’Or standings, has already started building a legacy. The young winger was also awarded the Kopa Trophy, recognizing him as the best young player globally, further validating Morata’s high expectations for his career.
