The electric two-wheeler segment is rapidly gaining popularity in India, with various brands unveiling their electric scooters at diverse price points. Major motorcycle manufacturers, including Honda, TVS, and Suzuki, are now entering the market, with plans to launch new electric vehicles in the first half of 2025. As the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 approaches, excitement builds for multiple electric scooter announcements tailored for Indian consumers.
One of the most anticipated launches is the Honda Activa EV, expected to debut in March 2025. This electric scooter is likely to share features with the well-known Activa 110, potentially featuring two detachable and swappable Honda Mobile Power Packs. The Activa EV is expected to come equipped with a fully digital touchscreen console and keyless start-stop functionality. With a range exceeding 100 kilometers on a single charge, it aims to compete directly with popular models like the Ola S1, TVS iQube, and Ather 450. Honda is set to unveil the Activa EV at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January in New Delhi.
TVS is also making strides in the electric vehicle market, reportedly planning to introduce two electric vehicles within the next six months. Among these is the TVS Jupiter EV, which aims to appeal to everyday commuters. This model is anticipated to have a range of 70 to 80 kilometers per charge and is expected to be priced below ₹1 lakh (ex-showroom), making it accessible for mass-market adoption.
Additionally, Suzuki is gearing up for the production of the Burgman EV, which is projected to begin in December 2024. This electric scooter will feature a fixed battery pack, differing from earlier reports of a detachable battery design. Suzuki has set an ambitious annual sales target of 25,000 units for the Burgman EV, although specific pricing details have yet to be disclosed. This model, codenamed XF091, is also expected to debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.
As these prominent brands prepare to enter the electric two-wheeler market, the growing demand for sustainable transportation options in India highlights the sector’s potential for innovation and development. The coming months will be crucial as consumers await these exciting new offerings that promise to transform urban mobility.
