A Kano State High Court has issued an interim injunction preventing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Accountant-General of the Federation, and the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) from withholding the allocation funds for the 44 local governments in Kano State.
The court order followed a Motion Ex-Parte filed on November 1 by Ibrahim Muhammed, Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), along with five other concerned Kano residents. Represented by their legal team, Bashir Yusuf-Muhammad and Usman Bala-Salisu, the applicants expressed concerns over the potential withholding of funds crucial to local governance in the state.
The respondents in the suit include the Accountant-General of the Federation, the CBN, RMAFC, the 44 Kano local governments, and a number of commercial banks, such as UBA and Access Bank.
Justice Ibrahim Musa-Muhammad granted the injunction, which restrains the listed respondents and their affiliates from delaying, suspending, or otherwise interfering with the disbursement of monthly allocations from the Federation Account to Kano’s 44 local governments. The order ensures these allocations will continue without delay until a further hearing.
The judge also authorized the applicants to serve the court processes on the key respondents via Red Star Express Plc to facilitate timely service. The case is adjourned until November 21 for the hearing on the motion.
