Atiku Urges Nigeria to Learn from US Election Integrity, Calls for Credible Future Elections

Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has highlighted lessons Nigeria could draw from the recent U.S. presidential election, which saw Donald Trump declared the President-elect after defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

Reacting to the outcome, Atiku, who ran as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 elections, emphasized the importance of election integrity, noting that Nigeria must focus on ensuring credible results in future elections. “The lesson for us in Nigeria is the integrity of the process that ensures a credible outcome,” he stated.

Atiku further expressed hopes that the incoming Trump administration would support democratic principles globally, ensuring free and fair elections not only in Nigeria but worldwide. In his congratulatory message, Atiku praised the U.S. electorate for its steadfast belief in democracy, saying, “The unwavering faith in the power of democracy and the sanctity of the ballot has once again shown the world the true might of the people’s voice.”
