Newcastle United icon Alan Shearer has highlighted what he sees as the three best signings made by Edu, Arsenal’s former sporting director, who resigned from his role on Monday. Edu is reportedly moving on to work within Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis’ network of football clubs.
Reflecting on Edu’s tenure, Shearer pointed to defenders William Saliba and Gabriel, along with midfielder Martin Ødegaard, as standout acquisitions for the North London club. He commended the defensive partnership of Gabriel and Saliba as instrumental to Arsenal’s recent successes under manager Mikel Arteta.
“Looking through the list of the players Edu has signed at the club, there have been some great additions,” Shearer told Betfair. “The partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba has been key to what Arsenal are all about under Mikel Arteta. I would also add Martin Ødegaard into the top three under Edu’s stewardship,” he added.
Edu’s contributions have helped solidify Arsenal’s squad, and his legacy includes a series of signings that strengthened the team’s core, contributing to their competitive standing in the Premier League.
