UPDATED: Police fire tear gas at Lekki toll-gate

Tear gas was fired to disperse protesters at the toll gate on Thursday morning.

Protesters and civilians alike are currently fleeing the scene of the #EndSARSmemorial procession.

A journalist who works for Arise TV, Oba Adeoye, was also allegedly harassed.

The  reports that the procession was led by comedian, Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni and singer, Folarin Falana, aka Falz.

Reacting, the Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said there was no gunshots and that peaceful protesters were allowed to move around.

“Peaceful persons were allowed to move around without interference from the police. Some of them that decided to be lawless and start mounting the toll complex, an action threatening the existing law and order in the area, were dispersed with teargas.

There was no use of baton, neither was there physical contact. We equally do not have any record of shooting. We would, however, appreciate evidence of gunshots, maybe a video, to enable us take appropriate action,” Hundeyin tweeted on Thursday.
