Ogun LG polls: OGSIEC issues certificate of return to winners

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, has issued a certificate of return to all elected chairmen and vice-chairmen of the just concluded local government elections.

Media Talk Africa reports that the OGSIEC chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, had on Sunday declared the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of all 20 local government areas and 236 wards in the state.

Osibodu, in his remarks, urged the chairmen to see their victory as a wake-up call to deliver on their promises.

Meanwhile, the state Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, has called for peace following the election.

IPAC chairman Sanyaolu Abayomi, in a press conference held in Abeokuta, hailed OGSIEC for ‘conducting a free and fair election.’

Abayomi, in the company of representatives of the Boot Party, African Democratic Congress, ADC, Action Alliance, AA, All Peoples Party, APP, Young Peoples Party, YPP, Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, and All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, also appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for providing an enabling and peaceful atmosphere for the election.

He said: “Politics is like sport. One would win, and another would lose, and in the end, we have to embrace each other. We are fighting for all 18 political parties to participate; that was done, and not for violence.

“This election had all parties participating, and we congratulate the winners who are being given the letters of certification. Today, we encourage you all to continue to deepen democracy in all of your local government areas by ensuring an open-door policy amongst all political parties, as you are the leaders of the local government.

“We appreciate the efforts of Governor Dapo Abiodun for providing an enabling and peaceful atmosphere for the election, as there was no record of violence before, during or after the election.”
