It’s frustrating with the performance of some representatives in Imo State, particularly in Owerri zone. People in this zone have begun to ask if they truly have people representing them at both arms of the National Assembly.

Its obvious that they are looking for alternative means of addressing their lack of effectiveness. Hence, people in the zone are becoming worried over the ineffectiveness of their representatives at both the Senate and the House of Representatives, and they are warming up towards mobilizing themselves under the umbrella of Citizens Voice Matters.

They intend to engage their representatives constructively, as it is their right to hold them accountable. According to the unanimous mobilizer of this group, both Senator Onyewuchi and Hon. Chinedu are not meeting up with expectations. Hence, the need to checkmate them should not be seen as a politically motivated movement.

The group made example of Distinguished Senator Osita Izunaso as one who have truly represented not just his constituency, but Imo State and the entire South East at the National Assembly, they stated clearly how proud they are of him.

During an interview with Media Talk Africa, the unanimous mobilizer of the group insisted that the need for accountability becomes necessary at this time, because “if everyone continues to keep quiet over their ineffectiveness, the constituency will continue to have unbearable setbacks that will be uncontrollable.”

Holding elected representatives accountable is crucial for a healthy democracy. The concerns they’ve raised about Senator Onyewuchi and Hon. Chinedu’s performance at the national assembly calls for immediate attention.

Key Concerns:

Lack of Effectiveness: The representatives are not meeting expectations.

Accountability: Citizens have the right to hold representatives accountable.

Constituency Setbacks: Continued ineffectiveness will lead to unbearable setbacks.

Taking Action: Citizens Voice Matters is taking a constructive approach to engage representatives and ensure they prioritize the constituency’s needs. This initiative empowers citizens to demand better representation and hold their leaders accountable.

In democratic societies, voting is a powerful tool for change. Allowing citizens to choose representatives, influence policies, and exercise the right of withdrawing their representative can shape the future of our democracy.

While Voting Matters:

A Voice in Decision-Making: Voting provides an opportunity to express opinions and choose leaders who align with your values. However, Nigerian democracy seems not to be so anymore, hence the right of withdrawal should be exercised.

Holding Leaders Accountable: Ensures elected officials remain responsive to the people.

Joining Citizens Voice Matters or similar initiatives can amplify your voice and create positive change in the constituency. Collective action can lead to significant reforms.

Let us exercise our right when needed
