CAF Awards 2024: Troost-Ekong, five others dropped from men’s Player of the Year shortlist

Captain of the Super Eagles, Williams Troost-Ekong, is among the five players that have been dropped from the final five-man shortlist for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year.

CAF confirmed the shortlist on Monday in a statement.

The others who didn’t make it from the original 10-man list are: Chancel Mbemba (DR Congo/Olympique Marseille), Soufiane Rahimi (Morocco/Al Ain), Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso/Bayer Leverkusen) and Amine Gouiri (Algeria/Rennes).

The other nominees still in the running are: Simon Adingra (Cote d’Ivoire/Brighton & Hove Albion), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea/Borussia Dortmund), Ademola Lookman (Nigeria/Atalanta), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/Paris Saint-Germain), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns).

The award ceremony is scheduled for December 16, 2024 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen is the current holder of the award.
