Adamawa doubles internally generated revenue

The Adamawa State Government has raised its internally generated revenue from N9 billion in 2019 to N18 billion as currently evaluated.

The state Ministry of Finance presented figures Tuesday indicating that while the state received N9.7 billion from internally generated sources in 2019 when the government headed by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri came to be, the revenue generation profile rose steadily to now stand at more than N18 billion.

According to the state Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Augustina WandamƬya, the Adamawa State Internal Revenue Service collected N9.7 billion in 2019; N8.3 billion in 2020; N13 billion in 2021; N13.1 billion in 2022; and N17 billion in 2023.

She said while the revenue generation dropped a little in 2020 owing to the exigencies of the COVID-19 pandemic at the time, so far this year, indications already are that IGR for this year will be over N18 billion to maintain its steady rise.

Media Talk Africa reports that despite the progressive rise of internally generated revenue in Adamawa, the state remains low in the League of States, coming in 32nd place among the 36 states and Abuja in the 2022 rating released in 2023.

The Adamawa finance commissioner was one of seven commissioners who presented scorecards of their respective ministries on Tuesday, the second of the three-day ministerial press briefing of the state.

The others include the commissioners of Transport, Special Duties, Mineral Resources, and Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs.
