AFCONQ 2025: Why Rwanda beat Nigeria’s Super Eagles – Rohr

Benin’s Cheetahs head coach, Gernot Rohr has suggested reasons why the Super Eagles of Nigeria were defeated against Rwanda in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifier.

Recall that Rwanda claimed a famous win against the three-time African champions at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Monday.

The Super Eagles had already secured qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco after Libya defeated Rwanda.

However, Rohr believes Rwanda took advantage of the fact that the Super Eagles have already qualified for the 2025 AFCON and beat them in their own backyard.

“Against Nigeria, we were pegged back by Osimhen a few minutes before the end,” Rohr said in quotes relayed by Fraternit.

“I know this team well from having coached them. They sometimes tend to take their foot off the gas when they think they have qualified.

“This can give their opponents the opportunity to spring a surprise, as was the case with Rwanda.”
