EPL: Shearer warns Guardiola about 7 Man City players ‘in decline’

Former England striker, Alan Shearer, has warned Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola that at least seven members of his squad are in “natural decline”.

Guardiola’s contract extension with the Premier League champions was confirmed on Thursday night.

But Shearer believes the 53-year-old has a huge task to transform City’s ageing squad.

Guardiola has won six Premier League titles including the last four in a row. He also lifted the club’s first-ever Champions League title.

But Shearer feels his job in the coming years will be tougher.

He told BetFair: “Looking through their current squad, you’ve got Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovacic, Ilkay Gundogan, Kyle Walker, Ederson and even John Stones who are all 30+ years old.

“So you could argue the bulk of their squad is in a state of natural decline.”
