Ondo election: We’re reviewing results – PDP Governors

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors’ Forum has said that the party is reviewing the outcome of the Ondo State governorship election.

The Forum stated this after a meeting in Jos, the Plateau State capital on Saturday.

Media Talk Africa reported that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, emerged victorious from the governorship election held last weekend.

In a resolution on Saturday, Governors elected on the platform of the main opposition party accused the APC of manipulating the exercise.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Governor Bala Mohammed who addressed the press, said the PDP is still examining the documents.

“Meanwhile, we are still examining the documents on the Ondo elections where the APC manipulated results after openly buying votes,” he said.

The Governors said it was high time the judiciary saved Nigerian democracy, while also calling on the National Assembly to look into the nation’s electoral laws to make it difficult for institutional sabotage of the will of the people.

“Last weekend’s poll in Ondo came about two months after the governorship election in neighbouring Edo State which the PDP governors described as a “rape of democracy.

“The forum notes with concern the rape of democracy in the Edo governorship elections,” he added.

The Forum further claimed that the PDP governorship candidate in Edo, Asue Ighodalo, won the election, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of having manipulated the results in favour of the APC candidate.
