EPL: Southampton boss happy with Onuachu’s display against Liverpool

Southampton manager, Russell Martins has heaped plaudits on Paul Onuachu following the striker’s superb display in the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

Onuachu was handed his first start of the season against Arne Slot’s men and he put up a superb display in the encounter.

The Nigerian was a thorn in the flesh of opposition defenders especially with his impressive link up play.

The 30-year-old however had to leave the pitch on 52 minutes after picking up an injury.

Martins is hopeful the injury is nothing too serious.

“Paul probably deserved to start before now, the way he’s trained – he’s been so good. He was really good so I hope his injury is nothing too serious.

“It’s just a bit of fatigue but I thought he played really, really well,” Martins said after the game.

The striker has made six league appearances for the Saints this season.
