Adamawa Govt approves N2.9bn to rebuild Yola market

The Adamawa State Government has approved N2,937, 217,120.45 for the reconstruction of Yola Town market in Yola South Local Government Area.

The market, destroyed by fire about five months ago, is the main market in the Adamawa Emirate domain called Yola Town.

The new Yola Town market under construction, to house 69 modern shops, is designed to be completed within the next nine months.

The approval of the N2.9 billion was disclosed to journalists on Wednesday evening by Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr John Dabari, shortly after a meeting of the State Executive Council, SEC, presided over by Deputy Governor Kaletapwa Farauta.

John Dabari said the new market will be built with modern architectural materials and is designed to reduce the prevalence of fire outbreaks.

He said government’s decision to rebuild the market is to enable resumption of full commercial activities which serve as a source of livelihood for traders.
