Delta Speaker among survivors of Delta boat mishap — Press Secretary

The Chief Press Secretary to Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Nkem Nwaeke, says his principal was one of the survivors of the boat accident that claimed five lives in the state on Tuesday.

Nwaeke, in a statement on Wednesday, said the speaker is yet to recover from the shock.

He added that the speaker was returning to Asaba, en route Warri, after engaging with constituents on that fateful Friday afternoon.

Media Talk Africa recalls that five persons were said to have lost their lives, six were injured, and twenty persons were still missing after the devastating boat accident in the Warri South Local Government Area of the state.

“Mr Speaker is deeply saddened by the tragic boat mishap that occurred over the weekend along Bennett Island River in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, in which he was involved but miraculously survived. Unfortunately, five precious lives were lost in the incident.

“Mr Speaker was returning to Asaba, en route Warri, after engaging with constituents on the fateful Friday afternoon, November 22, 2024, when the boat he was being ferried on almost had a head-on collision with another, resulting in the death of five persons and several others being injured.

“His heart goes out to the families of the deceased, and he prays that God grants them the strength to bear these irreparable losses,” the statement read.
