Magistrates begin strike in Cross River

All magistrates in Cross River State have embarked on a three-day warning strike, effective 27 November 2024.

This is even as the organised Labour concluded its two-day warning strike yesterday.

The Organised Labour had demanded Governor Bassey Otu’s government pay them the national minimum wage of N70,000 without further delay.

Chairman and secretary of Magistrates Association of Nigeria, MAN, His Worship, Godwin Onah and His Worship, Solomon Abuo respectively confirmed in a statement sighted by Media Talk Africa correspondent that all magistrates have commenced a strike.

All courts in all parts of the state have been under lock and key since morning.

The statement ordered that all magistrates across the state are to ensure effective compliance by all staff of their courts.

Earlier in the month they had embarked on the same warning strike but called it off.

MAN had written a letter to the state governor notifying them that they had pushed forward their strike to 22 November 2024 with the hope that the administration would attend to their demands but they failed.

The statement said, “In line with our congress resolution to proceed on a 3-day warning strike, this has become effective from 6am of today 27 November 2024 till Friday 29th November 2024.

“Failure of the state government to meet our eight-point demands, an indefinite strike shall be embarked upon until all our demands are fully met.”
