Liverpool vs Man City: A knockout blow for Guardiola’s fragile champions (A preview)

Titles are not won by December 1.

But Liverpool could make a big leap towards dethroning Manchester City as Premier League champions today.

Arne Slot is making quite an impression in his first season in England. The Dutchman stepped into the massive shoes Jurgen Klopp left behind.

But Slot has gone about his business quietly, only losing once – at home to Nottingham Forest – since he arrived.

This incredible form sees Liverpool top of the Premier League and Champions League tables.

The Reds go into their clash with City eight points clear. A win for them takes it to 11 and effectively knocks Pep Guardiola’s men out of the title race.

Guardiola must be glancing at Slot with a bit of envy. This is the form his team typically produces.

But this time around, City are barely recognisable and in the middle of a six-game winless run. Five straight defeats and one draw – after leading 3-0.

For them, this is probably the worst time to go to Anfield.

Fresh from beating Real Madrid in midweek, Liverpool are coming into the game riding a huge wave of confidence.

The Premier League is of course able to throw up some bizarre results from time to time. But that’s not looking likely this time around.

Liverpool look set to take advantage of City’s defensive vulnerability to rack up a comfortable success. And that’s not even mentioning City’s awful run at Anfield, that should instantly put Liverpool in a hugely confident mood.
