NPFL: Ikorodu City not competing for title – Doherty

Ikorodu City chairman, Sanmi Doherty has dismissed claims that his team can win the 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League(NPFL) title.

The Oga Boys are unbeaten in their last six NPFL matches.

Ikorodu City currently occupy third position on the NPFL table with 24 points, four adrift behind leaders Rivers United.

Doherty stated that his desire is for the players to enjoy their games and demonstrate ability to maintain consistency throughout the entire campaign.

“I believe people should temper expectations regarding NPFL title ambitions and securing a continental ticket. We’re not under pressure to achieve these goals,” Doherty told Flashscore.

“We’ll keep focusing on taking it one step at a time and see how far we can progress.

“Honestly, we’re not getting carried away, nor are we under any pressure to succeed. We’re simply focusing on our approach, regardless of whether it’s about relegation or anything else.

“My players are enjoying their game, and I believe that’s what matters most for them. I always remind them, ‘Stay focused on what you’re doing and enjoy it. If you’re not enjoying what you do, then it loses its value.”
