Delta: Ibori-Suenu dumps PDP for APC

Eriethake Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former Delta State Governor James Ibori, today, December 5, 2024, joined the All Progressives Congress, APC.

She represents Ethiope Federal Constituency, Delta State.

The lawmaker cited the leadership crisis and exclusion within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the reasons for her defection.

Ibori-Suenu, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, announced her defection in a letter titled “Notice of Resignation of Hon Eriethake Ibori-Suenu As Member of the Peoples Democratic Party.”

The letter dated 5th December 2024, signed by her and addressed to the local government chairman, PDP, Ethiope West LGA, Delta State, said: “Please, by this notice, I formally resign as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect. I surrender my attached Peoples Democratic Party membership card with membership number 0777144 in furtherance of my complete disassociation and disengagement from the Peoples Democratic Party.

“My resignation was foisted on me by my complete exclusion by the state chapter of the party and by the lingering leadership crisis which has divided the party into implacable camps.”

Meanwhile, findings by Media Talk Africa indicated that the lawmaker waited for the return of the state chairman of the party, Elder Omeni Sobotie, from medical vacation before announcing her defection.

In a letter dated Monday, December 2, 2024, and addressed to the State Deputy Chairman, Francis Obigbor and Delta Central APC Chairman, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, Sobotie said he has returned to his duty post as chairman of the party in the state.

However, the emergence of two factional acting state chairmen was a good excuse for Eriethake Ibori-Suenu to defect to APC.
