EPL: Arsenal fan fatally shot while celebrating Gooners victory over Man United

A 30-year-old Arsenal fan in Uganda, John Ssenyonga, was shot dead by a security guard while celebrating the team’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Saturday. The incident occurred at a restaurant in Lukaya town, about 100 kilometers from Kampala.

The match, which saw Arsenal secure a win with goals from Jurien Timber and William Saliba, led to jubilant celebrations among fans gathered at the venue.

Witnesses say the restaurant’s manager became frustrated with the noise and instructed the security guard to intervene. When fans ignored warnings to quiet down, the manager reportedly cut the building’s power.

Tensions escalated, and the security guard opened fire on the crowd, killing Ssenyonga instantly and injuring another Arsenal fan, Lawrence Mugejera, who is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

Regional Police Spokesman Twaha Kasirye confirmed the incident and condemned the act.

“We condemn the incident, and we ask anyone with information that can help the police bring the suspect to justice to come forward,” he told local media. Kasirye also urged football fans to celebrate responsibly to avoid similar tragedies.

This is the second Arsenal fan-related fatality in Uganda in recent months. In October, 22-year-old Benjamin Okello was killed following an argument over Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool in Kyobugombe Trading Centre.
