The National Orientation Agency, NOA, in Niger State has held stakeholder engagement town hall meetings to discuss the nationwide sensitisation on five critical areas affecting the nation’s unity, growth and development.
Speaking during the meeting, the Director General of NOA, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, explained that the key areas of the campaign centre on five critical issues affecting the nation’s well-being, unity, and development.
According to him, these areas include World HIV/AIDS Day, security awareness, discouraging get-rich-quick syndrome, World Human Rights Day and tax reform bills.
Issa-Onilu noted the need for collective action and active participation from all Nigerians to address these challenges.
” The government had intensified efforts to provide free and accessible HIV testing and counselling services nationwide, ensure antiretroviral treatment is available and accessible to people living with HIV/AIDS, and partner with local and international organisations to combat stigma and discrimination.
“On security awareness, the government is strengthening security architecture through better equipment, training, and increased funding for security agencies,” the NOA DG stated.
Issa-Onilu also stressed the need for citizens to shun shortcuts to wealth and embrace integrity, hard work, and opportunities provided through government initiatives.
He added that the Federal Government is implementing tax reforms aimed at creating a fairer and more streamlined tax system for citizens.
In his speech, the state director of NOA, Yahaya Gbongbo, explained that the agency launched the campaign on November 6 in Niger to sensitise people to understand that security is everyone’s business.
Eze Pampas, the Eze Ndigbo of Minna and chairman of the Resident Community Traditional Leaders Association in Niger, attributed the get-rich-quick syndrome among Nigerian youths to injustice, corruption, and unemployment in the country.
