Police barricade Afe Babalola’s Lagos firm over planned pro-Farotimi protest

Police officers have been stationed outside the Afe Babalola Chambers in the Magodo area of Lagos to maintain security.

Media Talk Africa reports that Farotimi, a human rights lawyer and activist is currently facing charges before the Ekiti state Magistrate Court over alleged defamation of a legal icon, Afe Babalola in his book, titled, ‘ Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.

The officers are present to prevent any disruption, amid a planned protest in response to the prosecution of human rights activist Dele Farotimi.

The chambers are one of the locations designated for the start of a protest organised by the ‘Take it Back Movement,’ a group led by former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore.

On Tuesday, Farotimi was detained by the Ekiti State police for alleged defamation and cyberbullying.

The Activist was accused of disseminating false information about Babalola.

Farotimi was granted bail on cybercrime charges on Monday.

He, however, appeared before the Magistrate Court in Ekiti for arraignment on charges of alleged defamation, Tuesday morning.
